To Boldly Go Where No Shuttle Has Gone Before by Anne Dyer, originally published in the UK by Anne Dyer, © 1993, then published in the U.S. by Point Ground, Denver, CO, © 1994 gathers in one place techniques from Knotting, Macrame, Marlinspike as well as Tatting; an excellent resource. My Celtic Medallion above was tatted using several techniques reprised in this book from DMC® #10 Cébélia, 743 Medium Yellow, 826 Medium Blue, 3326 Light Rose and White.
In Cluny Tatting Designs by Joy Botchlet, published by Tatting Concepts, Oklahoma City, OK, © 1993 the hybrid technique of adding lace Cluny's to tatting is 'explained' with almost indecipherable drawings. In the above item, called "Cluny Rolled Bookmark, the lace Cluny's are obvious as the variegated mauve 'leaves'; the 'rolled tatting' is done in the three bridging rings across the top; corresponding rings at the bottom are regular tatting. The difference is so insignificant that one can see why roll tatting came and went with barely a whisper. DMC® #80 Special Dentelles, 101 Variegated Spring Green and 99 Variegated Mauve.
