Make Your Own Thread Caddy

Thread Caddy Place your coins in one of those toy vending machines you frequently see at the entrances to variety stores. Throw out the toy (or give it to the nearest kid) and keep the container. Note: there are two sorts of container, one with a crystal clear cap like one shown and one with a slightly cloudy cap. The plastic of the clear ones is rather brittle and prone to breakage, the cloudy ones are almost indestructible; those are better to use. Either drill a hole or melt one with a hot needle in the top. Using either a jewler's file or a fine-toothed hacksaw blade, cut a short notch in the side lip of the clear piece (some wax or even bar soap applied to the teeth of either helps the process). Thread a loop of yarn just long enough to go around your wrist into the hole and tie a stopper knot. And ba-da-bing, you have a thread caddy sized exactly for balls of DMC Tatting Cotton!
